On the 8th day of June, in the year 793 AD, a band of heathen Northmen from Scandinavia attacked the priory on the island of Lindisfarne in the north-east of Britain.
Who were these warriors really and where lay their origins? Were they Scandinavian farmers who one day decided to cast away their ploughs and take up the sword? Not likely.
These men, the painters of the runes, referred to themselves as ‘erilaR’.
Part 1 – Stranger from Another Land (Published 7 June 2019)
The year is 453 AD. The Great Khan, Attila, overlord of the Scythian and Germani hordes is no more.
The lands of Rome lie in ruin, razed by the Scourge of God.
From the ashes of civilization a new power is destined to emerge. Warriors whose fearsome reputation would remain for more than a thousand years.
On the plains of Pannonia a boy is born. A boy destined to shape history.

Part 2 – Blood of the Khan (Published 13 April 2020)
The year is 469 AD. Like wolves, the tribes descend upon the ailing Empire, salivating to grab the lion’s share. In the East, where Rome still thrives, the enemy lurks within the mighty walls of the Great City.
Ragnar is forced to choose loyalties when the Huns breach the borders, and soon he finds himself a pawn in the struggle for ultimate power.
But in his veins flows the blood of the Great Khan, and he is no one’s plaything.
Part 3 – War God from the Sea (Published 21 March 2021)
The year is 471 AD. Ragnar and his kin arrive on the distant shores of Scandza, right in the middle of a growing conflict between the Svear and their arch enemies, the Gautar. Guided by the hand of fate, they become embroiled in a struggle for tribal dominance which soon escalates to a quest fueled by greed, revenge and desire.
Meanwhile, in the lands of the Empire, the Romans continue their designing and incite the tribes to take up the sword against their fellow barbarians, drawing the Heruli into a conflict that could spell their demise.
But for the tribes to prosper, Rome has to endure. Ragnar and his companions have to outwit and outfight the Heruli’s ancient enemies to keep the Empire from falling into the hands of the conniving Goths.
Ragnar faces overwhelming odds, but the gods have ordained it long before. In the fires of destruction, a new power is being forged – one which is destined to conquer all.
Part 4 – The Iron One (estimated release date 31 December 2022)
The year is 474 AD.
A wolf winter in the far north draws a terrible menace into the lands of the Heruli. But things are often not what they seem…
Driven by the lust for power, the Svear king seizes the opportunity and breaks his sacred oath.
Forced to flee for their lives, Ragnar and his people fall prey to the wolves of the Austmarr. They end up in the lands under the dominion of the Spear Danes.
The local warlord proves to be no match for the Heruli, but his plea for assistance is answered by a corpse-maker of renown, a champion without equal.
While Ragnar fights for his life, the lands of Rome teeter on the edge of an abyss.
Trokondas calls for his help and Ragnar has to travel south, through the treacherous Land of Bazgun, the realm of the twelve tribes. Will Ragnar be able honour his oaths, or has his met his match in the ancient enemies of Attila?
